Prospect Watch: Donovan Solano collected his fourth extra-base-hit in nine games and now has a slash-line of .313/.378/.500. The righthanded hitting big league veteran, who is looking to get back to the Majors after signing with the Padres last month, has seen time at first and second base. … Left fielder Tirso Ornelas continued his hot streak, collecting another multi-hit game. Over his last 10 games, Ornelas has 13 hits, including three doubles, two triples, and two home runs to raise his OPS from .380 to .804. … Righthanded reliever Sean Reynolds collected his second win with a season-high 2.1 innings of scoreless work. The converted infielder can regularly reach back for triple digits but has struggled with control. The 26-year-old has walked eight in 11.1 innings on the year. … After back-to-back appearances allowing a run, Kevin Kopps threw a scoreless inning of relief and made it through his first outing without a walk since April 7. While batters have hit just .208 off of Kopps, his 11 walks have pushed his WHIP 1.53. He’s managed to avoid too much damage, posting a solid 3.14 ERA through his first 14.1 innings.

Prospect Watch: The Missions pitched their second shutout of the year, getting strong performances from several of their stars. Adam Mazur rebounded from his first bad start of the season to throw six scoreless innings – his third of five starts withoug allowing a run. Mazur did walk two, matching his total from his first four starts combined. The 23-year-old righty boasts a 2.39 ERA, 9.91 K/9, and 1.37 BB/9 to begin his season. … Center fielder Jakob Marsee reached base three times, including his second home run of the season. He also drew a pair of walks and stole a base each time he was on. He now leads the league with 12 steals on the season, is fourth on the circuit with 17 walks. His .670 OPS is two points higher than it was exactly a year ago. … The Missions had one hit with runners in scoring position, but it came when it mattered most. Catcher Brandon Valenzuela hit a bases-loaded, two-run single to rip the game open. The 23-year-old catching prospect has struggled with consistency since his breakout 2021 season in Lake Elsinore, but his .726 OPS through the first month has him on track for his most productive campaign since then.
Roster Move: The Missions activated righthanded reliever Raul Brito from the injured list. The move gives the Missions the league limit of 28 players.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps had a 6-1 lead at the seventh inning stretch, and still led 6-4 going into the ninth, but fell on a bases-loaded walk. Jagger Haynes had by far his best start of the season, tossing six one-run innings. He hadn’t gotten through three innings in any of his first three starts and came in with an ugly 21.21 ERA while opponents had reached base 21 times in just 4.2 innings. While the 21-year-old lefty has gotten in struggled with control early in the year, the Captains were swinging early and often. Haynes needed 75 pitches to get through the six innings, posting an improved 46-29 strike-to-ball ratio. … Offensively, the star of the game was third baseman Devin Ortiz. The former Virginia Cavalier hit two more home runs to continue his breakout season. He now has a .313/.425/.537 line for the year. After signing as an undrafted free agent in 2022, the 25-year-old had entered the year with a career OPS under .650. Kai Murphy was the only other TinCaps starter hitting over .230 by the end of Wednesday’s game.
San Jose Giants 7, Storm 3

Prospect Watch: The Storm managed four hits, committed four errors, and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Despite that, they still had a chance to win. With the game tied at three in the eighth inning, Romeo Sanabria doubled to give the Storm runners at second and third with no outs. The next three batters were unable to bring in the runners and then San Jose pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Sanabria has been one of the bright spots for the Storm, posting an .895 OPS. He has reached base safely in 16 straight games, a stretch that has included 17 walks. Sanabria is one of four Storm batters in the top seven in walks in the California League, joining Jay Beshears, Braedon Karpathios, and Ryan Wilson. .. Last year’s third-round pick, J.D. Gonzalez had a hit and walk and continues to excel at the plate. The 18-year-old catcher now has five hits five walks, four runs, and six RBI in seven games. Gonzalez is still waiting on his first professional home run.
